Halloween Party

Some shots from Kim's Halloween Party Friday. I used the camera on Auto Mode for the first time since I bought it. The lighting in her house was very dark and spooky-like a.k.a terrible for a beginner photographer like myself =)

Happy Halloween Everyone

Face to Face, with the Face Girl

I have a problem, and I need your advice...

I am the type of person who loves to make others happy. I love putting a smile on others faces, and try really hard to be sensitive to everyone, even people I might not even know or be close to.

I also have a really difficult time dealing with people who don't like me. Whenever someone is mad at me or mean or just being a bitch to me, I don't make that about them, it's me, it's something I am doing, something I am doing wrong. I have a hard time with the fact that there are people that are just jerks in this world, for no other reason that they are, well, jerks. I'm not saying that I am never mean to anyone, but I think we all know that there are people who you can be sweet to them and they will still hate you, and the nicer you are the meaner they get.

I work with one of these people.

This girl (we'll call her Sally) isn't exactly mean to me, she is just really good at passive aggressive behavior, like most women are. Whenever I come on the unit I say hi to everyone and I always get the normal pleasantries from everyone, but her. She never talks to me unless I talk to her first. If we are in a group of people, she will be overly friendly with everyone else and will ignore me.

Sound a little grade school doesn't it? The sad part is that I am letting it bother me as much as I am. She's not worth it, she's just a jerk. I wouldn't even want to be friends with a person like that, so why should I even care? I am a strong, independent, beautiful woman with a husband who adores her, a family that loves her and good friends to share my life with. So why is it that the fact that one girl is out-shadowing all of that?

I don't know how many of you watch Sex and the City but there is an episode where Carrie meets a girlfriends of Aidan's after she broke up with him the second time. Nina (the next girlfriend) makes a face that Carrie obsesses about over the entire episode. She can't stop thinking about what Nina thinks about her and she lets this take over her whole life. By the end she realized that it really isn't even about Nina, it was her. She was just being too critical of herself.

I guess that's easier said than done. I am a good person. If people don't want me to be in their life, that's their loss....I do believe that.

So why am I still obsessing over this girl??

Christmas and Halloween Together at last

I am starting Christmas planning early this year. Earlier then I have ever IMAGINED doing it in the past. Mostly because most of my gift giving this year will be home made and thus needs advance planning.

I want to make my own christmas cards this year and tonight I went to see if Michaels had any supplies out already.

I guess the retail industry is as early as I am...

I also bought my halloween costume tonight. I am going to a halloween party friday night and I decided to go as a Geisha. It is a little shorter then I have worn in the past so I am going to have to be very "aware" of when I sit and when I bend over. But I look damn good in it! I'll post a picture of me in it this weekend :-)

What are you guys being for Halloween?

Happy Birthday Little Rhody Girl!

My Photos

I started taking photos serisouly in August of 2009 when I came into possession of a New Camera. I am taking photography classes online and I am really loving what I am coming up with so far. I use Photoshop Elements for editing which I am still trying to learn my way around. Please visit my flickr photostream and feel free to leave comments!

9 Months

Image592

9 months have passed since my wedding day, the sad thing is that 6 months have passed since I last saw my husband.

Being married to the Navy (yes I am married to the Navy as much as I am married to Kyle) TOTALLY SUCKS sometimes. For one thing there are times when I have been by myself for so long that I don't even FEEL like i'm married to anybody. I look at my ring finger and I know that I am married, but so much of my day to day life is single-like life that it's hard for my head to grasp the concept. If it's hard for me to even understand it I can believe that you guys are totally confused but it is what it is.

However on each 24th day of each month I can think back to that day that DID happen and know that I AM married, and that someday SOON my husband will come home to me.

The lucky thing for me is that I am pretty sure this is the last 24th day that I will be minus the hubby. ;-)

Christmas Ornament Exchange

I LOVE CHRISTMAS!

I am already starting to think about Christmas this year. For one thing my husband will finally be home to celebrate with me, and Christmas has always been my favorite holiday for as long as I can remember. I am already starting to think about my cookie bake-off weekend, decorating the house, and now participating in an Ornament Exchange through Justine over at Almost There. If you want to start the Christmas season a little early this year I would encourage you to think about participating. I have been trying to become more active in the blogging community and I though that this would be a good way to start (I am also planning my first give-away for around the Christmas Season).

Tis' the Season....well....almost :-D

Quilt Layout Options

So I have finished my Quilt Squares!!!! YAY. It came together really easily but you know that when you make a baby sized quilt it will take a baby sized amount of time. But seriously I am really happy with the way it came out. Now comes the tricky part, deciding what layout to use. I have 5 options. I want your help. Please leave comments voting on your favorite layout. I'll decide sometime next week.

I (of course) have already decided on my next project, Christmas themed! I want to make table runner and cloth napkin sets for your Christmas Table. I am still unsure as to how long it will take to put together but if they come together quick I am going to make one set and use it for my first ever blog giveaway!

On to the layouts!

Photoshop, I love you

I am in week two of my photography class at BetterPhoto.com and today I bought a tutorial book on Photoshop Elements 7 to get better acquainted with the program. I bought a copy of PE7 on a friends recommendation and as soon as a installed the program and clicked around the full editor interface for about two seconds, my head exploded. That program is jam PACKED with tools to tweak anything and everything, a guide through this abyss of photographic freedom is absolutely essential. I am looking forward to using this program to it's full potential.

Just for example, look at my instant magic wand! (called "healing brush" in PE7)

Yes, tragic I know, Zits on the Wedding Day. I broke out two days before. Don't feel badly, I was too deliriously happy to care, but take a look at THIS!

Reducing Infant Mortality

I saw this video on a nursing blog and was really profoundly effected by it. For those of you that don't know I am planning on starting graduate school sometime in the next two years. I am playing around with a few options for MSN programs and have though about becoming a Certified Nurse Midwife. This video motivates me all the more. I think anyone who is interested in maternity care, frankly anyone who is planning on giving birth in the United States should watch this, it's pretty eye opening.

It's a Good Thing

living-martha-stewart[1]

Hi, My name is Sara, and I'm a closet Martha Fan.

I'm sorry, when I was in college, she annoyed the CRAP out of me. Who the Hell takes twigs from the back yard and turns them into place cards for the 10 course meal she is throwing at the ultimate last second? Martha!

However....once I started running my own home....once I got married...the full moon came out and I became a Martha Fan. I started really liking her stuff, the little quirky things she does around a house that really is wonderful. The decor, the crafts, I love it!

Don't Judge, I have a problem and I'm openly admitting it.

Inside my indepent career focused woman exterior beats the heart of a housewife.

Don't worry...It's a good thing!

Anyone else a closet Martha Loving Housewife? Come on I can't be the only one!

Little Rhody Girl is a Quilting Machine

I have never attempted quilting, the shear thought of it was pretty overwhelming. I got my mom's old sewing machine that is as old as I am when I moved out and I have used it for a few small projects around the house but as I was finishing my beautiful afghan I was already deep in thought over what my next project would be. I decided to try a quilt. My MIL is a quilting fiend and she gave me some wonderful recomendations and on Wednsday I took the plunge and bought the supplies and fabric for my first project. I am pretty proud with what I have done so far.

I turned this....

pretty good considering this was my first shot. these will end up being the points of a star block. I will post pictures as I go. Wish me luck on my new project!

Afghan Completed!

I am a knitter. My mom showed me how when I was little and I started with scarves and moved up to afghans. I love sitting on the couch watching TV with a skein in my lap making something. Call me an old fashioned girl but I love the feeling of accomplishment I get when I finish a project. This afghan is a combination of two patterns in one, knitted in three panels and stitched together. I worked on it on and off for a year but it probably took around 6 months to complete.

Drum roll please......

I took these pictures before I added the fringe. Here is the finished product, taking it's rightful place on the living room couch.

I am so proud of myself. It is only my second cable knit afghan but it is the first project that I have ever kept for myself (and my husband haha). This will be passed down to my kids someday

Excuse me While I smash my Head in this Wall

During a break from my Trauma class today I was sitting on the outside stairs leading into the hospital soaking up the SoCal Sunshine chit-chatting with some fellow nursey co-workers when this happened.

"So -what's his face- is going to pick up my daughter today."

"What, that's your nickname for your husband? You call him what's his face? Not worth
remembering his name huh?" -snickers-

"Ha ha...yeah. Hey Sara, I guess you could call your husband that too, since you never see him."

"Um.......what?"

I resisted the temptation to cause some her some trauma (after all we could have used it as an example for class)

People's Idiocy Astounds me sometimes....

"I'm sorry don't you mean Thank you for you and your Husbands service to our country without which I wouldn't be able to live the way I do and our America as we know it wouldn't exist? That's what I thought.

by the way...you're welcome..."

I must have taken a wrong turn at Albuquerque...

Hey! ::waves::

No, I'm not dead or trapped under something heavy. I just went though a blogging slump over the last week. But I'm baaaaaaaaaack!

Happy October, Happy two months until my Hubby is Home! Happy start to the Fall Holiday Season! I love this time of year. It's a cornucopia of celebrations. It's pretty much a party marathon for my family

Quick Re-cap
September: My Birthday, My FIL's Birthday
October: Dad & Brother's Birthday, Halloween
November: Mom's Birthday, Thanksgiving, KYLE'S BACK!!!
December: CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!! (which for me lasts all month long!)
January: New Year's, Kyle's Birthday, our First Wedding Anniversary!!!!!

See what I mean? It's a marathon not a sprint people.

Well Sorry I went MIA. I was busy with ED classes and fiendishly finishing my cable knit afghan. I will update you all tomorrow with back posts about the last week. Right now...New Moon is calling my name (yes I've read the whole series, yes I am re-reading them, yes I love them...don't you judge me)

Cheers!

My Fair cookie cutter wedding

Have any of you herd of this show "My fair Wedding" on We TV? I TiVo episodes of bridezillas to fulfill my quota of bad reality TV and I guess this show comes on after Bridezillas on Sunday night. I have never watched it just out of spite, and here's why.

I guess the premise of this show is centered around Brides who are planning a "disaster" wedding that must be saved by (hey!) this wedding planner to the stars. I can only assume that he swoops in and puts the bride in a couture gown and bedazzles her reception with thousands of dollars worth of flowers dripping in diamonds that no-one could ever afford without the help of a major TV network. Then of course, he is the hero by turning this bride into a image of herself that is only possible with lots of money, and thus perpetuating the idea that the only way to have a nice wedding is to go completely broke getting there.

Now I am not being judgy of bad TV, of course I would be a total hypocrite in doing so especially due to the Bridezilla comment in the first paragraph. My point is I thought that a Wedding should be about the couple, whatever the bride wants right? It's her day so if she want to wear a hideous gown and have a polka band at her reception, she should be entitled to do so, right?

What do you guys think? If anyone has seen the show and it isn't as much of a travesty as I think it would be please let me know. I am willing to give anything a shot once.
